Updated: Aug 18, 2022

Everton have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain for former Everton fan favourite and Senegalese international, Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Talks have been underway for 3 days between the French giants and the blues. And according to highly reliable Italian Journalist, 𝘍𝘢𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘰 𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘰, all parties are keen to get the deal done, including Idrissa Gueye himself.

Paris Saint-German are keen to get the 32 year old off their books and are open to selling him. However, it’s been reported, also by 𝘍𝘢𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘰 𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘰, PSG want almost his full reported £99K salary covered by Everton, who initially preferred a loan, however Gueye’s agent is pushing for a 2 year contract, as reported by 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤.

Player Profile - Idrissa Gueye.

Thanks to 𝘗𝘚𝘎𝘩𝘶𝘣 writing some information on Idrissa Gueye time at PSG, make sure to check them out on Twitter.

Idrissa Gueye's time at PSG has been full of ups and downs. He initially signed as an expected "defensive midfielder" that PSG were looking for, after the departure of Motta. However, he was moved further up the pitch and his job was to do the cutting and the effort in place of Verratti and Paredes, which was not necessarily his role at Everton before. He was asked to be immaculate on the ball, evade pressure and help to bring the ball out of defence. The responsibilities given to him weren’t suited for his skill set. Far from his initial and known strengths.

He also had very little amount of injuries at Everton, but that proved different here. He has suffered several injuries that have stalled his progress in this new role and equally stalled Paris Saint-Germain.

However, he has shown flash of a more varied skill set, his best performance is easily the one against Real Madrid in the Champions League Group stage in September 2019. He shredded to pieces Madrid’s Kroos & Modric. But flashes are a long way from consistency which is one of the most important thing for any footballer player.

No other PSG player can do the defensive work like he does and this can be helpful for any team. His dynamism is great.

In few words, when he is good he is excellent, but when he is poor he has been a weak link for PSG and a liability for the team (as seen on his several red cards or yellow cards that made him being subbed off or his errors that have lead to conceding a goal.)
