EXCL: Ben Jacobs, CBS Sports

This is an exclusive feature with Ben Jacobs from CBS Sports, directly speaking to EFC Daily.

The proposed additions of Idrissa Gueye and Amadou Onana aren’t to holt Lampard’s interest in Billy Gilmour as Ben Jacobs says “A season-long loan is more likely than a permanent sale. Gilmour is open to the move but there are no formal negotiations just yet. Frank Lampard is very keen on Gilmour, though, so it's very possible this deal happens. And if Idrissa Gueye returns, the pair could form a very strong partnership.”

Ross Barkley was heavily linked last week but a deal isn’t close according to Jacobs, stating “Chelsea really want to offload Ross Barkley before the end of the window. He hasn't been given a squad number. Frank Lampard was initially quite keen to explore Barkley. But after internal discussions it looks like the club have decided not to move. Barkley was also offered to Villa, who haven't entirely ruled out re-signing him. Barkley is short on games and confidence but he's only 28. Could prove a bargain for someone but Everton are not actively exploring him right now due to other priorities.”

Another name mentioned was Batshuayi but again it seems Everton will not pursue it as Ben Jacobs expressed “Everton have explored Michy Batshuayi but it's more likely at this stage that he ends up at Wolves, probably on a loan. Wolves have moved fast and are now in direct talks with Chelsea. There is an urgency at their end due to Raul Jimenez's injury. Everton ideally wanted a permanent deal but no offer has been made to date. Everton will now have to move quickly if they are to enter in the race because Wolves are not hanging around. Leeds are also monitoring the situation.

Finally, Broja is a persistent link and Ben states that “There is no doubt Everton are interested in Armando Broja, especially now Dominic Calvert-Lewin is injured. The challenge is persuading Chelsea to sell as West Ham have already found. As a result, a loan sounds ideal on paper, especially for Everton given their budgetary constraints, but Broja isn't so keen. He wants both game time and stability. Having somewhat pushed to join West Ham, he subsequently spoke with Thomas Tuchel and is a bit more reassured about his role at Chelsea this season and beyond. But if Chelsea bring in further attackers before the window shuts, Broja's situation may change again. Newcastle are considering a bid and Everton could yet  formally advance their interest, too. It's one to watch later in the window as Broja's Chelsea future becomes clearer. I sense Everton would prefer a loan, if it does become possible and acceptable to the player, since Broja is going to cost at least 30m. He's still highly in demand.”
